According to The Times of India, India will export an additional 220 megawatts of electricity to Nepal, helping the energy-starved nation ease its power crisis.

According to the plan, India will export 190 megawatts of electricity to Nepal over the next three weeks, and then continue exporting an additional 30 megawatts over the following two months.

Currently, India has been exporting 300–320 megawatts of electricity to Nepal. At present, the two governments are working diligently to negotiate an increase in the volume of electricity trade by 250 megawatts over the next two months.

Although Nepal’s hydropower potential exceeds 80,000 megawatts this year, its winter-generation capacity is unlikely to surpass 800 megawatts, falling far short of the 13,000-megawatt demand. Due to an unstable domestic political environment and resource shortages, Nepal’s power generation rate remains extremely low.

The Indian side stated that the construction of cross-border transmission lines is crucial for strengthening India's electricity exports to neighboring countries. Currently, several cross-border transmission lines connecting to Nepal are under construction. In the future, as transmission infrastructure improves and domestic power generation increases, India will further boost its electricity exports to Nepal.
